about sydni charity solomon.
Hey y’all, I’m Sydni
A theatre director, producer, educator, and forever student of the arts, currently based in Chicago. I believe theatre is about building community, confronting truth, and imagining new possibilities. My work centers on collaboration, curiosity, and care. Both in the stories I tell and in how I bring them to life.
I started teaching acting at sixteen, well before college, and I still teach masterclasses in my hometown of Gainesville, Florida, whenever I can, even though I now live in Chi-town. Helping emerging artists connect their personal stories with their craft is at the heart of what I do.
As a director, I lead rehearsal rooms that are playful, discussion-driven, and built on trust. We will play, because play unlocks risk and discovery. I bring my Viewpoints training into the process to help ensembles stay present and connected. My expectations are high, but I’m also everyone’s biggest cheerleader, because we’re not just making shows, we’re building brave spaces.
As a producer, I’m passionate about new work and community-rooted storytelling. I co-produced Transmigration, CCM’s annual student-devised work festival, which taught me how to build from the ground up and hold space for creative chaos.
I earned my BFA in Acting from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), and since then, I’ve blended directing, producing, and educating to create meaningful theatre experiences that uplift underrepresented voices.
Currently, I serve as a member of the Artistic Leadership Coalition (ALC) for Artemisia Theatre in Chicago, IL.
I’m constantly inspired by creative powerhouses like Whitney White, Quinta Brunson, and Nataki Garrett, women whose work and leadership have opened doors for many more of us to follow. They’re my north stars in a field I’m committed to reshaping.
When I’m not creating, you can find me at flea markets, farmers markets, or fully invested in Love Island (yep, I love me some reality TV).
Thanks for stopping by. Dive into my work, and if you’re building something dope, scroll down and let’s connect.
